Key Information
This is a volunteer-organized car camping event to the Badlands National Park in South Dakota. It is open to all registered Girl Scout troops* and their families. You can come as a troop, a family, or me & my gal. We'll car caravan out of the Twin Cities on Aug 9th and return on Aug 14th. The Perseids peak this year on Aug 12th. The moon is a waning gibbous so we will only be able to see the brightest meteors - however the badlands lit by the moon are also awesome! *If you are coming as a troop with minimum adults, we strongly recommend Cadettes & Up.

I'd love to take my troop/family/girl but...
-
I'm the only adult who likes to camp. Will there be other troops I can buddy up with? Yes - we will pair up troops who do not have enough adults to make safety ratios.
-
I'm not confident I have enough camping experience to take my troop on such a big trip. No worries, we will have adult volunteers who are camping pro's and happy to assist.
-
I cannot possibly haul all the camping and cooking gear, food, and the girls - I just don't have enough car space. No worries, we will depart out of the Twin Cities in a car caravan, led by a U-Haul truck to help carry gear.
-
My troop does not have enough camping gear. No worries, we've got gear to rent for small fee (covers cleaning, maintenance, and storage).
-
It just seems overwhelming. No worries, we've got an "easy" button for this trip. We can bring all the cooking/camping gear and food and even help your girls with the cooking (while you relax with your morning caffeine).
Base Cost Estimates:
-
$20 per person/per day for food; not including eating out
-
$30 per vehicle for 7-day park pass
-
Gas for approximately 1,000 miles, round trip; add more for side trips
-
Cost of group camp based on number of attendees; For estimating purposes assume $50 per night per troop or family
-
If you plan to take advantage of the U-Haul, the cost of the U-Haul divided by the number using it; For estimating purposes assume $50 per troop or family.
-
Any rental gear you need is extra and varies by what you need.

Things to Do
In addition to hiking and participating in the Badland's Programs, Bear Country USA, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial are all about 1 - 2 hours away. And who can go to the Black Hills without stopping at Wall Drug?
